There are places and events that, through the years, begin to take on special meaning. Few parties more near and dear to my heart than Trip Vest’s once-birthday-now-festival on a secret San Francisco beach. It’s had many names in its history – last year at Edididob (Every Day I Dream I’m Dancing on the Beach) I played a particularly luscious morning mix for the revelers. In fact, sunrise is one of my favorite times to spin because dancers are in such a malleable state you can take them almost anywhere.
This year Trip asked me to play from midnight - 2AM which is a much different energy and style, and a little higher stakes. Stepping up to the beautiful makeshift stage on the beach I felt a whole kaleidoscope of butterflies in my stomach. However, gazing into the crowd I only found smiling, friendly faces from all parts of my life shining back at me. Pure love. I took a deep breath and let loose…
Hours passed, and through the dreamlike state I remember a hazy patchwork of laughter, whoops, and the amazing energy of bodies in motion. I next thing I knew Trip was giving me a giant bear hug as James laughed like a maniac over the thundering beat. There was certainly magic in the air, and I’m so happy to have found such a stellar community.
Come dance with me on the beach
As always, big love to Trip, Chris Skieller, James, Beau, and the whole gang for putting together a beautiful event and welcoming me into this world.
