Blogging consistently is challenge, especially when you’re staring at an empty text box and there’s a whole internet full of doge gifs to explore. Luckily we have Iron Blogger, the modern incarnation of the blogring / social club.

The general idea is to write a blog post every week. If you do, that’s great and all the Iron Bloggers will read your insightful post. If not, you put $5 in a pool and when we have enough money the group hits the bar for drinks. I found the $5 fine was enough of a stick to get me to write more regularly about a wide range of topics. This round features folks who blog about technology, photography, zines, startups, yoga, accessibility, and more. The posts don’t have a be a masterpiece – simply getting the ideas out of your head is enough to make the internet a better place.

The program has traveled far. Conceived in Boston by Nelson Elhage and adopted by Mako Hill, I was introduced to Iron Blogger through Parker Higgins when he created the west coast chapter of Iron Blogger. If you’re in the San Francisco Bay area and want to join please drop me a line. For those wishing to run their own Iron Blogger you can snatch the code on github for tracking posts, generating reports, and updating the ledger of debts.

Go Iron Blogger!
